Alchemy is the discipline which focuses on the study of the methods and materials used to produce potions, poisons and other consumables mixtures which can provide a variety of effects to the imbiber. While not limited to their ranks, it is most commonly practiced by arcanists.

Background[edit | edit source]

Potions and other compounds are brewed from ingredients and imbued with magickal properties. They can be used as medicines, poisons, or give the drinker a variety of effects, from enhanced strength to an immunity to fire. Potions are not necessarily used by drinking, as some can be applied by physical contact. Potions have a distinct advantage over spells in that they can be used even by non-arcanists, provided that they have the potion itself at their disposal. There are also certain magickal effects that can only be induced through the use of potions.

Alchemists require the following supplies and materials in order to practice their craft -

  • Cauldron of silver, brass, copper or pewter.
  • Phials of crystal or glass.
  • Knife of silver or enchanted steel.
  • A mortar and pestle, alembic, retort and calcinator.
  • Scales for weighing, with weights.
  • Varied ingredients necessary for specific results.
  • A wand or staff.
