History[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Prince Leoric was born in 4963, himself the eldest son of Juliora's firstborn son. He has a brother and two sisters younger than him. His siblings and family, as well as his closest friends, all call him "Leo". His father died in 4993 after a protracted illness, and he was named heir as a result.

The young prince grew up within the apartments of Arvendon Palace, and was educated by the magisters of the Incantrium, and also studied under the professors at the University of Roseminster, immediately prior to joining the military. Thought of as a natural swordsman since he was a boy, he combined that talent with his magickal skill in combat situations frequently during his years of military service. Those familiar with his combat style describe him as not so much a battle caster as a "blade caster", but even without a traditional weapon in hand, he is a powerful and accomplished arcanist, more than able to hold his own, having proven such on several occasions.

The day after his eighteenth birthday, he married his long time sweetheart, Filippia Zardro, the daughter of Sir Agostino Zardro of Millpost, who had been a military officer for many years and whose family operates the Zardro Wineries, which produce the luxury Almerry wines. The couple has three children, all sons - Geland (born 4983), Durinius (born 4985) and Pavio (born 4988). Since attaining his majority, he has been an avid big game hunter and has a deep love for reading and collecting books.

Military Service[edit | edit source]

Prince Leoric entered the Grand Army, aged eighteen years, and would go on to serve a twelve-year term. He qualified with swords, daggers, and bows, and also earned his battlecaster certifications. During his time in uniform, he successfully put down an anarchist movement in Delatha, crushed the burgeoning Melezenti pirates and their stronghold on the Ivory Coast, and suppressed a trade war between Commonwealth guilds and the merchant princes of the Far Isles. By the time he stood down from active duty, he had achieved the rank of brigadier, and had received several commendations.

Post Military[edit | edit source]

Since departure from active military service, Prince Leoric has shifted his time and attentions to supporting the work of the ministers and generals, and has also taken part in several diplomatic initiatives. He likewise maintains a regular presence in the halls of state. On many occasions, he can be seen representing his grandmother at various events and functions across the Commonwealth. With Juliora in her seventy-first year, it is no secret that she is quietly grooming him to become the next leader, and everywhere he goes, he is accompanied by two members of the College of Docents.

Because of his status, Prince Leoric makes his primary residence at Beverneau Palace, a palatial estate 50 leagues west of Morvista. Since his involvement in Grand Ministry affairs has increased considerably upon becoming heir apparent, however, he maintains rooms in Arvendon Palace where he resides all but three months of the year. He also maintains an apartment within the command quarters at Fort Garring, the largest base of the Grand Army.
