University of Roseminster
The University of Roseminster is the most well-known institution of higher learning in the Grand Commonwealth. Located in the city of Roseminster in Baldon Province, in the east-central Midlands, it is where the children of noble families, as well as those of well-connected merchant families, are sent to study the subjects of import to one who seeks a higher status through greater intellectual pursuits.
Classes at the university are taught by instructors known as professors. Every instructor is a previous graduate, who will have spent several years in further research and study before coming to Roseminster to teach, typically having been invited by the faculty to do so. While every instructor is at least fairly well-versed in each of the offered subjects, they will typically specialise in one or two.
Every attendee of Roseminster pursues their studies according to a traditional schedule which consists of two three-year terms. Their term is spent studying grammar, logic, rhetoric, and philosophy. Their second term focuses on arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy. Once these two terms are completed, they can graduate - or they may progress even further - and study either law or medicine. Only those who satisfactorily complete all three terms may be referred to by the honourific of "doctor". These accomplished individuals go on to fulfill a variety important roles in communities across the Commonwealth.
